It all started during winter break…

During a break in my studies, I finally pushed myself to develop the plans for what would become Molassacre: Escape the Flood. While I had known about the event since I learned about it in grade school, it was only recently that I learned about its nickname.

This event was terrible and, if you should choose to learn more about it, caused almost entirely by corporate greed. It is the perfect example of industrial malfeasance in the early 20th century. It is our hope that this game will help inspire families (and especially children) to learn more about the 1919 Boston Molasses Flood. It might even inspire you to visit the spot where it occurred!

After creating a prototype (based off the 1906 card game, Touring), I was lucky enough to find incredible partners in the comic book artist Francesca Carità (Dark Horse, McLean) and graphic designer Kyle Wenger.

Kickstarter Roots!

On June 19, 2025, we finally launched our game on Kickstarter while visiting the exact site in Boston where the Molasses Flood occurred. Along the way, we met hundreds of Bostonians that shared their own experiences growing up hearing stories of the event. We even met some that had never heard of it before at all.

Our campaign ran from June-July and we were lucky enough to fully fund our card game. Without the support of our backers, none of this would be possible!

It felt surreal to finally stand at the site of the event with a prototype copy of our game. While making the game was fun, getting to show it around the city and meet so many of them really made the trip special for us.
