  • On January 15, 1919, Boston was hit by perhaps the stickiest disaster in American history. A giant molasses tank exploded, unleashing a wave of the substance racing through the streets of Boston. The event was disastrous, yet is the perfect opportunity to explore how this event occurred.

  • Molassacre: Escape the flood is based on the mechanics of the 1906 American card game, Touring, developed by William Janson Roche. Touring was the first card game to feature automobiles, but it was also a racing game. It is most famous for inspiring the wildly popular midcentury French game, Mille Bornes, which outsold Monopoly at one point.

Molassacre: Escape the Flood has players race to 1,000 feet (the distance the molasses reached through Boston) by playing distance cards. You’ll have to play obstacles to slow down your opponents, remedies to overcome obstacles played against you, and safety cards that prevent you from being stopped.

Only one can reach the end and overcome the Molassacre. Will it be you?

  • Molassacre: Escape the Flood was only made possible through the generous support and backing of our Kickstarter backers. Between June and July 2025, we were able to raise enough money to fund an initial run of 1,000 copies of the game.

In addition to our incredible backers, Molassacre: Escape the Flood would not be the same without our incredible artist, Francesca Carità, and graphic designer, Kyle Wenger. Thanks for your help guys!
